Since social networking was start being using, it was getting popular and famous. No matter what age and gender you are, what language you speak, what countries you lived, there seems like no barriers at all on social networking. Now a day, many companies and industries were corporate with these technologies. Because now it more efficient and convenient to do a commercial on social networking instead of doing it in newspapers or TV. It's good to have these technologies in society because of social networking can open to a larger group of people around the world. Like build a relationship, doing commercials, promote recycling and public welfare, even getting the news as soon as possible, and etc.
Although there were many advantages to social networking. However, there were also "dark sides" of these technologies that we can't ignore. First, in writer Wortham's interview with the founder of By/Association, Michael Karnjanaprakorn, he said: “I wanted to meet people in other industries — someone I would never meet otherwise but would really get a lot of value out of meeting.” Although this article was published in 2009, and what the writer focused on is the lacked and limited circle on social networking. But in my opinion, I think now a day, social networking is still anti-social. Although now a day, the friend cycle expand on social network and you started to know more friends. However, now you can see lots of people were chatting through their phones even though they were face to face. Social networking is a tool to help us social when we can't meet face to face or others, not blocking our real-life social. Also, On Weekly's episode-7 points out a scary point, "Who's Really Behind That Friend Request". Reporter Jack Nicas pointed out there were roughly 120 million fakes on Facebook, but Facebook rejects or ignores these reports. It might be good to meet new friends. But what if these new friends are fakes or trying to do something bad. It's hard for us to know. Not just facebook, lots of social media can have the same situations. If we don't fix these and add more security, one day it will become a disaster and more victims that injured by these fakes no matter physically or mentally.

This is very interesting especially the part where you mentioned that there was 120 million fake profiles. I didn't know there were so many. I indeed agree with you that even though we have so many options to communicate, we are still anti-social and would rather use our devices even though we are face to face.
